Helping parents and caregivers support their child’s mental health in the early years.

The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to mankind.
— Bessel Van Der Kolk

At Early Emotions, I believe the most significant way we can support the mental health of children in early childhood is by incorporating the entire family system. The biggest impact on change is when we work as a team to support your child’s needs, as well as the needs of the family.

I am a clinically licensed therapist and registered play therapist. I specialize in working with children in early childhood (1-6 years old) and their variety of mental health needs, including: aggressive behavior, overwhelming tantrums, separation anxiety, or adjusting to big life transitions, such as divorce, a new siblings, or other changes in the family system.

So what does this look like? For some families, I work only with parents - providing tools and resources to help you support your child’s needs, while also feeling supported yourself. For others? I bring play therapy to you with my mobile play therapy service. This allows me to support your child and family in a familiar environment. All of my services include a focus on time spent with you, the parent, ensuring you feel equipped with what you need to support your child outside the play therapy session.

About Me:

Hi, I’m Abby Thomason! I am a clinically licensed therapist in KS and MO (LCSW/LSCSW) and registered play therapist with nearly a decade of experience focused on children in early childhood and the people that care for them. I am also a mom of two littles in early childhood.

My goal in opening Early Emotions is to provide a comprehensive mental health service to support kids in early childhood by incoporating parent support and creating resiliancy that will follow your child into elementary school and beyond.
